Congratulations on taking this very romantic and wonderful step! Here are some handy resources on How to Get Married in BC that will surely come in handy as you embark on this exciting new chapter!

Sometime in the three months before the wedding you will need to buy a marriage license. Obtaining one is super easy! It will set you back only $100.00. At least one of you will need to go in person to a marriage license issuer. You will need to present ID for yourself and your partner… a birth certificate works well as does a passport and/or driver’s license. Click here to find one near you. It will take about 10-15 minutes and you’re one step closer to saying “I do”!

Next you will need to hire a B.C. registered marriage commissioner or other preferred private Officiant (try Vancouver Officiant or Young, Hip & Married) to lead the ceremony along with two witnesses at least 19 years of age.  After the ceremony, your Officiant will send in the license to BC Vital Statistics for registration. You should receive the marriage certificate in the mail 3-4 weeks after the ceremony. The Officiant will give you a temporary certificate in the meantime to use for any travel taking place immediately following the wedding. You may need it to get that awesome upgrade into first class or the penthouse suite!

For more information as well as a list of local marriage commissioners check out this super handy government website that breaks it all down for you… https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/life-events/marriage
